- Bt/St. Joseph's College was established in 1875. During the time of Reverend Christopher Ponjeen Ayar, the then co-father Reverend Francis Xavier (OM.I) founded the Roman Catholic Tamil Kalavan School with 15 students under the name of Mr. It was started with Vaithi as the first president.
- From the time of its inception till 1948, the school was functioning from 1st to 9th grade and in 1960 it was converted into a government school and upgraded to 11th grade.
- In 1973, it was upgraded to 2nd floor hall. In 1991, it was upgraded to 1C standard and G.E.D. High Level Liquidation was started. The college was renamed as Mutt/St Joseph's College in 2018.
